I love the improvements of your new picture vs. the old picture. The little dab of scenery that gives it depth, the warm color choices, the improvement on the boy. Ah, just wonderful. You did a great job and this is definitely one of my favs from the finalists. Good work, hope you make it further.
good job you're semifinalist. Sadly mine ain't so... well maybe if my scanner would have worked but this too late to complain... Good luck I hope you'll win this the other deviation don't match your improvement rate
Aww, now THIS is really cool! Honestly i rarely EVER see real progress when people show their re-drawn stuff. It makes me slightly annoyed (though I shouldn't be i know), because most of the times the new picture is even worse than the original, it is just more "shiney" or polished, but it still lacks of improved understanding of basic rules of anatomy, colours or techniques and just feels worse because while the original might have been simplier, it was still "fresher" in a sense. SO I really like your piece here that shows such a great improvement about colours, painting and figure drawing basics as well 8and in such a short time). Keep up the good work!
Oh my, thank you very much for that comment Though 2 years don't seem to me a short period of time xD But to be honest, I know what you feel - for example, I can't understand, why people pick one of their recent works to redraw when there are plenty of old ones which they can experiment with and use imagination.
Oh believe me it's really a short time. I could show you my "improvement meme" and you could see i was fairly good in drawing in an early age already, yet in the next 2 decades, there is really not THAT much of an improvement (since I took art as a hobby only so I was just messing around without pushing myself). But even now in many things I wish that I could improve this much in 2 years as you in colours and painting for example. Haha, I get what you mean. I was considering to enter to this contest because it seems fun. But the fact is that my gallery is really young, just a year old, so there is not much what I can do to show off, haha. But generally I agree, this meme worth only when you DO have some improvement to display, so there is a higher possibility with old works for sure. XD
Oh man, that's the thing that scares me the most - I'm really afraid, that sometime the progress will stop, and there'll be no improvement in the future Xx That's the thing that motivates me, I suppose xD
Yeah, I understand when the gallery is young and all, and it really irritates me that one can pick the art only from the gallery (as someone would download an old pice just to participate in contest). But seriously, I've seen people that have been here for years, and still took the recent deviation xD
Uhm.. I think that's not possible.. I mean even if you really master a skill, like digital painting, or figure painting/drawing in general, you can go and try different approaches, other media, things you haven't tried (forced perspective, other genres, mechanical things ect). So you probably always will find new areas to improve.
And I still entered the contest eventually anyway - as silly as it is from me. But there were still an aspect where I think I did make a good step forward and it was compositions, yey! Lol, I see, I really wonder why, it is just so much more easier (and impressive XP) when there IS a difference, sounds like silly choice then. And very irrational. XD
It's just I've seen something like that before, I mean, some people just stuck on their so-called style and didn't improve much in years. And I wish I could do much improvement in a short period of time xD Though it's kinda ambitious.
